How should I clean my double glazing windows and doors?
West Norfolk Glass’ double glazing units have been manufactured to a very high standard to ensure they are strong, durable and function effectively. There are some simple steps you can take to keep your windows and doors looking great and this includes using the correct products to keep them clean.
It may sound obvious, but the easiest way to clean your windows is with a simple solution of warm water with a splash of mild detergent, which will help to cut through the build-up of grease and grime. Use a soft sponge or microfibre cloth to wash the soapy water over the frames and glass, working quickly from top to bottom to remove the suds with a squeegee and, if necessary, use a dry, lint-free cloth to polish up the glass. Don’t tackle too big an area at one time or work in direct sunlight to avoid streaks drying on the glass. It’s also important not to use abrasive pads which may scratch and damage the frames and glass.
Spring is also a great time to clean the window tracks and hinges which can become dirty over the winter months. Use a vacuum cleaner with a nozzle attachment to remove any debris which has built up on the tracks and then wipe over them with a damp cloth. The moving parts may require a light oiling with a small amount of lubricant on the hinges and locks to keep them working smoothly.
When should I upgrade my double glazing?
Now is also a good moment to inspect your windows and doors for draughts by running your hand around the frames to feel for any cold air coming through. Look at the weatherstripping for signs of wear or damage and the glass panes for condensation or cracks, which would indicate that the double glazing has failed. Handles, hinges and locks should all be inspected to check that they operate properly.

A long-handled soft washing brush can be useful to reach and clean your conservatory roof, but do not be tempted to use a power washer or jet washer, as this may cause damage and impair the water-tight seal.
